| The Panoscan forensic camera represents a breakthrough for crime scene documentation. The 360 degree view captures the entire scene objectively with extremely high resolution. (Over 580 mega-pixels.) Panoramic images captured at the scene allow investigators to study the crime scene months or years later with unprecedented fidelity. Click here to see a zoomable example of this scene.
Even small details that may not seem important at the time of the initial investigation are captured with enough detail that they can be studied months or even years later. Images from the Panoscan MK-3 also contain more dynamic range than typical film images. Details in the shadows and highlights that would be lost on film show up clearly in the Panoscan images. Because the system can be precisely white balanced to each situation, the color is also more accurate than can be captured on film. The digital panoramic images can be shared over a secure network to allow detectives across town or across the country to view the images if desired. The Panoscan camera is not intended to replace traditional cameras... It is intended to augment and support the standard photography in several new ways. Interactive players such as QuickTime VR allow the scene to be viewed as a whole. Close up photos or video can be linked via "hotspots" to a comprehensive overview panorama that shows the relationsships of the evidence in context. See an example of a simulated crime scene. |

| The Panoscan MK-3 camera is the only digital panoramic camera system designed specifically with law enforcement applications in mind. Extreme low light performance make shooting in poor lighting conditions possible. The rugged field proven design is built to take rough daily use.
The Panoscan camera is a also designed to accept a camera mounted lighting system for situations where available light is not viable. Since the camera system is designed with removable filters the Panoscan can be used for near infra-red and ultra-violet forensic photography as well. |
